Win for AWU WA member over the festive season

The AWU Perth office was open over the Christmas and New Year’s period, to ensure members could contact us when they needed assistance most.

During the festive season organiser Dan McCaig took several calls from members seeking advice or assistance. One such call was from a KCGM member in the Goldfields, who was stood down over Christmas while under investigation and facing possible termination.

KCGM called a meeting at 4pm on the 30th of December, which Dan dialed into. It was during this meeting that Dan was able to point out that the company had failed their employee by not fulfilling their obligations as an employer.

After the discussion it was agreed that our member would be given a warning, undertake a performance improvement plan and would return to work in the new year. Our member was relieved he could enjoy his New Year’s Eve celebrations without worrying if he had a job or not.
