About

A Union for New South Wales

The Australian Workers’ Union is a large, diverse union, representing a variety of workers across a broad range of industries.

The AWU has a long and proud history in New South Wales. We have served generations of members across the state since the 1880s.

Together, we aim to improve wages and working conditions, defend rights at work and build a fairer stronger community across NSW.

The AWU NSW Branch was established in September 2016 after the three NSW located Branches (Greater NSW, Newcastle and Port Kembla) amalgamated. The coming together of the three NSW Branches combined the historic, organisational, financial and administrative strengths of each into one powerful State Branch.

A Union of Diversity

The AWU New South Wales Branch represents workers employed in a wide range of industries, including accommodation and food services, arts and recreation, civil construction, public administration, funeral services, manufacturing, technical works, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, forestry and much, much more!

As the state of NSW itself, the AWU NSW Branch is multicultural. Our members and staff are made up of hard-working people from various backgrounds and have different technical specialities and expert knowledge in their fields. Our Union is an equal opportunity employer and we seek to have built a branch that reflects the incredible diversity of the country.

A Union of Members

The AWU New South Wales Branch is made up of thousands of members and delegates who are supported by a dedicated team of organisers, legal officers and administrative staff. Collectively we are dedicated to the same goal of building a better society.

Along with our head office at Granville, we have regional offices located in Newcastle, Unanderra and Griffith.

Please visit Contact Us for the full details on our NSW metropolitan and regional offices.

A Union of Power

The AWU is a not-for-profit organisation that is proudly owned and led by AWU members. We aim to protect one another at work, strengthen our industries and stand by one another when times are tough.

We work closely with our alliance partners to achieve wins for our members, secure jobs and better wage and deliver justice at the workplace and beyond.

We stand together; we are stronger together.
