AWU NSW Calls for 10 Days Paid Family and Domestic Violence Leave in Australia

 

 

AWU NSW Staff members are joining thousands of other Aussie workers in supporting the We Won’t Wait campaign.

 

Every two minutes, the Australian police deal with domestic violence.[i]

Every week, one woman was murdered by her current or former partner. [ii]

Every month, one man was killed as a result of violence from a current or former partner. [iii]

Based on statistics, domestic violence rates are higher in rural and regional NSW. [iv]

 

We must act now!

 

The We Won’t Wait campaign is calling on all political parties to support 10 days paid family and domestic violence leave to be included in the National Employment Standards.

 

Having economic independence and job security is critical to ensuring that any worker experiencing violence can take the steps they need to leave.

 

Paid family and domestic violence leave will help save lives.
