Happy New Year from the Pilbara

January 22, 2020

Work returns to the Pilbara

After four years of a downturn and wages being cut by opportunistic labour hire companies, work has started to pick up in 2020. Now is the time to join your union and let’s get our rates back to where they should be.

Some of the projects starting in 2020 are:

  • Woodside’s Pluto 2
  • Rio Tinto West Angelas
  • Rio Tinto Robe River
  • Balla Balla and associated mines
  • BHP South Flank

With these and more on the drawing board, it is looking good for 2020.

Welcome to 2020 from the WMWA

For those of you who don’t yet know, the Western Mine Workers Alliance (WMWA) is an Alliance between the AWU and the CFMEU (M&E). The WMWA is based in the Pilbara region of WA and has been operating since 2013. With an established presence at Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore sites across the Pilbara this year sees a move into BHP’s sites in the same area.

With the resurgence of Iron Ore prices and the return of the employees’ market, now is the time to join your local Union. Local being the key word as the WMWA operates directly from the Pilbara with organisers based in Tom Price and Newman.

For more information on the WMWA or to join check out our website at http://www.wmwa.org.au
