On 21 October 2019, the AWU notified the Fair Work Commission of variations to the AWU Rules that were recently approved by the AWU National Executive. The changes concern the abolition of the Queensland Branch’s Metals and Construction District.

On 10 September 2019, the AWU notified the FWC of an alteration to its rules (other than eligibility rules). The rule change concerns the composition of the NSW Branch Executive and the Victorian Branch Executive.
