Cleaning up the Waste Management Industry

November 19, 2019

Truly horrific conditions have been exposed at the waste management factory that exploded in April.

It is alleged the factory was home to a massive illegal chemical waste dump and workers were exposed to chemicals with limited protective gear and no training. The AWU is fighting for workers’ pay after Bradbury Industrial Services has stood their workforce down after the fire.

AWU Victorian Branch Secretary, Ben Davis said the waste management industry needs drastic action. “The industry needs change, and change quickly before someone dies. That’s why the AWU is working on a campaign to visit every waste management facility. We want dodgy operators to know this, we’re coming and we’re not going to stop until all workers have safe workplaces. It is time to kick out the cowboys in the recycling industry.”
