Member update: COVID-19 and the JobKeeper Program

April 2, 2020

The AWU is here to support you through these challenging times with expert legal, industrial and health & safety advice.

You can access the latest advice on coronavirus and your rights at work through our online portal here.

Our first priority is your health and safety.

It is extremely important that every worker in the industry is taking all necessary safety precautions to stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

A workplace checklist is available to audit what protective measures have been taken at your worksite to keep members safe and ensure ongoing work.

If you have concerns about practices in your workplace, and safeguards against coronavirus (COVID-19) please contact your AWU delegate, HSR or organiser.

We are fighting to protect jobs today and for the future.

The union is lobbying government to protect jobs in essential industries. We have released joint statements across a range of industries including manufacturingsteelconstructionaluminiumfunerals and oil & gas.

We will continue to fight to protect our members jobs, and to ensure employers are putting in place the health and safety procedures to keep you safe at work.

And we will continue to support members in industries impacted by government restrictions.

We are working closely with members in aviation, tourism, hospitality and entertainment to provide support during this difficult time.

We’ve successfully lobbied to secure a wage subsidy for members in industries impacted by coronavirus. Workers in eligible businesses will receive a payment or wage subsidy of $1500 per fortnight.

You can get the latest information on the JobKeeper wage subsidy on our website.

During these difficult times it’s more important than ever that we stick together and support each other.

If you have any questions about health and safety in your workplace, or your rights at work please call your AWU delegate or organiser immediately.

In unity,

Daniel Walton
National and NSW Secretary
