Local Workers First.

August 10, 2020 2:38 pm

Australia must put local workers first as we rebuild our economy.

Australian workers must come first as we rebuild our economy.

An extra 276,150 Australian’s have joined the unemployment queue since March, and youth unemployment is now at 16.4% – the highest level in 23 years.

But big business and wool producers are still trying to exploit loopholes to bring in workers from overseas to undercut pay and conditions.

Oil and gas companies are looking to bring workers from the US and Greece – using restrictions on state FIFO workers as an excuse.

Big wool producers are pushing to bring in overseas shearers and shed hands for the upcoming shearing season – even asking the government to pay for the hotel quarantine costs for overseas workers to come in and fill Australian jobs.

Enough is enough.
It’s time we stood up and put Australians first.

We call for the Australian Government to put Australian workers first in managing the response to coronavirus.

We do not support bringing in more overseas workers on temporary work visas while we continue to face rising unemployment and a continued public health risk from coronavirus.

Our tax dollars should not be used to fly in workers from overseas to fill jobs which should go to Australians.

We should be investing in TAFE, training and support to get unemployed Australia’s get back into work.
