Reverse the Cuts to National Parks

March 3, 2020 1:56 pm

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has been subject to government budget cuts and restructures that has substantially impeded its ability to carry out its important role in managing our national parks, including fire prevention duties.

The NSW Government cut $121 million from National Parks between 2016-2018, cut $45 million from the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment in 2019, and an additional $36 million worth of cuts are planned for 2020.

These have cut National Parks to the bone, leaving staff overworked and under resourced.

Help restore funding to our national parks. Sign below.

In addition, the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment announced a staffing freeze in February 2020, despite the need to fill hundreds office-trained vacancies within National Parks.

We the undersigned, call on members of the Legislative Assembly to reverse the cuts to National Parks and the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, to immediately fill all vacant roles, to stop the further cuts planned for 2020, and to secure additional funding.
