Personality Profiles: Bill Ludwig

Bill Ludwig is National President of the AWU and Queensland branch secretary

Bill Ludwig, OAM, was appointed Queensland secretary in 1988. He is also the National President of the Australian Workers' Union.

His working life began as a shearer before he became an AWU organizer.

Bill is a member of the national executive of the Australian Labor Party, and has held various public board positions over his distinguished union career.

He was educated at Marist Brothers College Ashgrove Brisbane.

He was a shearer until 1970 before becoming an AWU organiser from 1971 to 1982 and South Western District Secretary 1982-1988.

Mr Ludwig has held numerous ALP postions including:
Member of the National executive and member of the national executive committee; state vice president; state administration committee Labor Holdings, director; Labour Enterprises PTY LTD director; New Labour PTY LTD Director; Labor Legacies PTY LTD, director.

He is also a member of the ACTU Executive and is a director on committees including SunSuper, WorkCoverQLD Board. Mr Ludwig is a board member of Q leave and is on the Mining Safety and Health Advisory Council.
