Time to energise the Bush - writes AWU leader

10 June 2008

The biggest selling daily newspaper in Australia the, Melbourne Herald-Sun , has this morning run a major Opinion piece by the AWU National Secretary, Paul Howes, arguing the union’s case why business and government must accept that it is Time to Energise the Bush .

Paul Howes told the Melbourne Herald-Sun readers that it is obvious that big cities like Melbourne are bursting at the seams - and there are now real advantages for business and government to adopt policies to decentralise.

The AWU National Secretary explained that Australia's oldest union had its roots in the Bush - and wanted to give back to regional and rural Australia by leading a lobbying campaig n for the government and the private sector to lift their vision, and see the opportunities in the Bush.

The AWU - which is also Australia's biggest blue collar union - knows that their is enough energy among the citizens of rural and regional Australia which could help solve many of our current economic and environmental issues.
