Is it Fair? Support Union Aid Abroad's "Make Life Fair Everywhere" Campaign16 January 2008Seven out of ten of the world's poorest people are women, says Union Aid Abroad.
According to APHEDA, these are some of the truths about the world in which we don't live - the developing world. The world we live in is a different world - and not without its injustices ‑ but for hundreds of millions of people, everyday life is a struggle against inequities, human rights abuses, unfair working conditions and lack of access to life's basic necessities. The question is, IS IT FAIR? Union Aid Abroad, the humanitarian aid agency of the ACTU believes that we can all act to make the world a fairer place. The Make Life Fair Everywhere campaign is a national campaign by Union Aid Abroad - APHEDA to raise awareness of the need for union people in Australia to show international solidarity and support for people in developing countries. The Make Life Fair Everywhere campaign recognises the need for international solidarity within the Australian union movement,
"It is no longer possible to protect workers' rights in one country, while in neighbouring countries with whom we trade, workers face exploitation and sweatshop conditions. The fight for workers' rights in one country has to be a fight for workers' rights in every country. " I urge you to do your part and support Union Aid Abroad - APHEDA's Make Life Fair Everywhere campaign," says Sharan Burrow, ACTU President.Through the Make Life Fair Everywhere campaign, Union Aid Abroad is hoping to strengthen its relationship with individual union members. They are aiming to get 5,000 people registered as monthly donors (Global Justice Partners).
