questions

What is an Award?

questions

A legal document that sets out your rights and entitlements in the workplace.

answers

Awards are updated by your union. They set out the rates of pay, hours of work, penalty rates, casual and part-time work and grievance procedures that relate to the job you do.

Because of the Australian Constitution, awards can be made in both State and Federal Tribunals. However, most Victorian workers are covered under the federal system because they do not have a seperate state system.

If you are unsure if you are covered by a Federal or a State award, ask your employer or contact the AWU.
