AWU TV Ads for the Boeing Workers StrikeThe AWU produced two TV commercials in 2005 which were shown on TV stations in the Hunter Region of NSW in support of the Boeing Workers at Williamtown Airforce Base who were on strike for 264 days trying to get the company to negotiate a collective agreement with the AWU. You can view ad number one here. And view ad number two here. Blood Is Thicker Than OilFor 25 years, Bass Strait oilrig contractors and their families have built their lives around 7 days on, 7 days off roster. In 2003 Esso Australia wanted to alter this roster cycle to 14 days on, 14 days off to save around $1million annually yet made a profit of $722 million in 2002, which was up by $14 million on the previous year. To raise public awareness of the affect on families of a proposed roster change by Esso, and in the hope of avoiding strike action, the AWU made a film which gives the families of the oilrig contractors an opportunity to voice their concerns and to raise awareness of the dispute in the wider community so that the threat of industrial action might be avoided. DVD & VHS copies of the documentary can be purchased from the AWU for $11 (DVD) or $15 (VHS), download the order form below to purchase a copy.
