National Communications Officer

The Australian Workers' Union is the nation's oldest and largest blue-collar trade union representing over 135,000 working men & women and their families. Since our formation in 1886 we have a proud record of standing up for working families from all walks of life, today our members live and work in all states and territories. The AWU employs more than 200 officials in our 45 offices to ensure that all of our members get a fair go at work.

The National Communications Officer is responsible for the layout, design and production of the union's various communication channels including print, web and video. These channels are used to showcase the union at a National level. It is a great opportunity for a graduate in design or communications who is looking for a chance to work in a dynamic and challenging creative environment.

The National Communications Officer works in collaboration with a range of stakeholders including other National Officials, State Branch Officials and Service Providers.

 

Essential Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in design/communications
  • Demonstrated experience in design and the quality production of publications
  • Experience with Adobe Design Suite software such as Indesign, Illustrator, photoshop
  • Demonstrated experience in liaising with suppliers in the print production processes
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated time management skills
  • Creative skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Proactive, can-do attitude

 

Desirable attributes:

  • Experience in copy writing or editing
  • Understanding of basic marketing principals
  • Basic IT Skills
  • Web quality video project/production experience
