Qld Premier Bligh at AWU National Conference

Other key conference events: Business Council of Australia President speaking, and major new position paper on Climate Change to be adopted by conference

national-conference09-logo Queensland Premier, Anna Bligh, will speak tomorrow (Tuesday, February 3) to  the AWU National Conference 2009 on the Gold Coast at Jupiters Resort.

 And the AWU National Secretary, Paul Howes, will release a major new union position paper on Climate Change.

AWU conference debates Climate Change policy

" Before the statement is released the 300 AWU delegates and observers attending the national conference will talk about how we best protect the wages and job security of AWU members on the front lines of the Climate Change debate.

Delegates are concerned about the demands from some employers to discount their wages to support big corporations affected by the CPRS proposals put forward by the Rudd Government,” Paul Howes said.

Also tomorrow the AWU delegates will hear from the President of the Business Council of Australia, Mr Greig Gailey.

Major highlights timetable for AWU conference Tuesday 3 February

  • Queensland Premier, Anna Bligh, is scheduled to speak to conference delegates at 9.30 am.

  • AWU National Secretary, Paul Howes, will release a major new AWU position paper on Climate Change at 11.15 am.

  • Business Council of Australia, President, Greg Gailey is scheduled to speak to conference delegates at 1.45 pm
